Q: I want to hire people from the list, but don't know who to contact. What should I do?
A: Good question. You can get a very rough idea of the level of performers by the degree program they're in. However, there are certainly exceptions to this rule. There are many talented undergrads who can knock the socks off any of the grads. Similarly, there are many doctoral students who get so bogged down with the (generally inappropriate) academic demands of their degree program that their performance suffers. A better way to gauge the abilities of the students is to take a look at their webpages, if they have one. Many students have their resumes and even sound clips on their homepages.
Q: I'm trying to put together an ensemble and already have contracted several performers, how do I fill in the gaps?
A: If you've already got a handful of players, a good way to find other performers is to ask the ones you have for recommendations. They will suggest people that they feel comfortable working with- which often yields better results than hiring a patchwork quilt of freelancers.
Q: Why do some of the email addresses look funny?
A: Some people prefer to list their email in the format myemail (at) gmail (dot) com instead of myemail@gmail.com. This is an attempt to prevent bots from harvesting email addresses.
